ummsbiaus is an experimental multidisciplinary artist working in the field of music and visual art. In 2023, she released her debut album Enerhomor, based on the sounds of electricity (electricity meters, sounds of power stations and electricity transformers), which was named among the best albums 2023 in the leading Ukrainian webzine Slukh and the international magazine A Closer Listen. Later that year, she released the first Ukrainian electronic suite, Snovyda Suite No. 1, Op. 4, an experiment with sound reception during different stages of the sleep cycle. ummsbiaus is not only about music: it’s about the idea of combining all possible forms of art to evoke feelings on different levels of perception.

Her latest project is an experimental folk album in collaboration with Ukrainian artist Difference Machine, titled “Halfway Between the Origin and the Edge”. It was created on the basis of a 2-hour recording session with Ukrainian folk musician and military medic Eduard Drach. This album looks at the coexistence of modern and archaic traits of Ukrainian traditional music. The main idea of this collaborative project is to think about the way samples of traditional instruments can be re-worked with modern tools to create a unique sound.

Komisiia (UA)

Komisiia is a four-piece band from Kyiv, Ukraine. We have released two full-length albums, three EPs, and six singles. Exploring different genres, from punk rock to bossa nova and house-inspired indie-pop, Komisiia is an ever-changing picture labeled by several musical media as a “chameleon band.” They have performed 100+ gigs in different venues across Europe.

Since the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the band members have been thrust into a new reality. This seismic shift has not only reshaped their day-to-day lives but also the landscape of the Ukrainian music industry. The band’s most significant new challenge right now is the necessity of reorientation to European markets and building a network of connections there.

In 2023, Komisiia started working with Ukrainian indie label Kontrabass Promo, opening a new chapter in the band’s story. Last year, the band also organized numerous charity events with the Musicians Defend Ukraine Foundation.

Alona Dmukhovska (UA)

Alona works in the music industry for almost a decade. Starting as a volunteer for the music festival she soon grew to the position of program director taking care of 100+ acts performing the biggest festival stages in Ukraine. She believes in the power of education and networking having done the music exchange projects in Germany, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and even in the Middle East (Kyrgyzstan, hello!). Along with a colleague she co-founded Music Export Ukraine, an independent organisation that helps Ukrainian artists build international careers. Since then, she showcased local talents at professional events in more than 20 countries, lobbied sector needs in Ukraine and Europe, did dozens of international projects, became the expert in European funding. And strangely, she still enjoys music!

Marianna Tanska (UA)

Marianna Tanska is a cultural manager experienced in different cultural domains. As a project manager at Music Export Ukraine, she leads international capacity building projects, such as Eastern European Music Academy, which develops 60+ emerging music industry professionals from 12 countries with every edition.

In addition, Marianna manages networking and collaborative projects for Ukrainian artists and managers to help their development on the international level, aiming Ukrainian music to be loved worldwide! Marianna also organizes international and local interdisciplinary festivals at the Ukrainian cinematheque – Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Centre, supervises event spaces to host film screenings and various performing arts events.
