This talk will offer an introduction on the applicability of Text and Data Mining exceptions over the use of pre-existing (human and largely copyrighted) music tracks as training data for GenAI models. It will present the relevant legal framework, with a particular emphasis on different (open) issues related with the entitlement of rightsholders to opt-out from the free use of their musical works for GenAI training purposes.

Theodoros Chiou is a qualified attorney-at-law, Member of the Athens Bar
Association, founder and owner of IPRightsGR-Dr Theodoros Chiou &
Partners law office. He offers specialized legal services in the field of
intellectual property law, digital media and technologies, with particular
emphasis and experience in the legal support of creators, artists and other
actors of the cultural and creative industry and in the legal support of the
development and operation of websites, digital applications and AI models.
The\u00f3doros Ch\u00edou holds a Law degree from the Faculty of Law of the
University of Athens, a Master\u2019s degree (Master 2 Droit de la propri\u00e9t\u00e9
intellectuelle) and a PhD in Intellectual Property Law, both from the University
of Strasbourg. He has accomplished a Post-Doc research project in the field
of contractual exploitation of musical works in the digital environment, as
scholarship holder of the Hellenic State Scholarship Foundation, and another
Post-Doc research project at the Faculty of Law of the University of Athens in
the field of Copyright and Artificial Intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
