Hosted by Greenpeace, this immersive presentation dives into the hidden soundscape of the sea, into a world of sound: why it exists, how it is vital to animal communication and what happens if we continue to disturb it.<\/p>
From cargo ships to underwater drilling, human noise is fracturing the natural rhythms of the ocean, confusing marine animals, breaking vital communication lines and changing the structure of entire ecosystems. Through hydrophone recordings, archival material on underwater noise pollution and creature sounds collected in the field, we’ll bring you face-to-face with a crisis most people never learn about that exists. We’ll take you on a journey through sound: from field recordings and hydrophone captures to the music of the 1980s ocean movement, when artists wrote whale songs as a call to protect the sea.<\/p>

I was born in Athens. I studied Social Anthropology at Panteion University and went on to pursue graduate studies in Animal Welfare Policy at Hartpury University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My research has focused on wildlife, biodiversity, and coexistence with wild animals in urban areas, while I have volunteered in the rescue and care of wild animals both on land and at sea, the protection of endangered species, legislation regarding captive wild animals, environmental journalism, forest conservation, and environmental education.
In September 2025, I joined Greenpeace as the oceans campaigner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laskarina Liakakou is a lawyer, journalist and bioethics researcher working at the intersection of law, investigative reporting and ocean advocacy. She holds a law degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and is completing postgraduate studies in bioethics at the University of Crete, focusing on environmental ethics, emerging technologies and ecological governance. She has published animal law research with Nomiki Vivliothiki and currently leads ocean communications for Greenpeace Greece's 30\u00d730 campaign, advocating for the protection of 30% of the world's oceans by 2030. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a journalist, she often appears on LiFO with opinion pieces on legal and climate issues. She produces the podcast 'Kata Vathos', the first ocean podcast in Greece. She works on investigative podcasts with Melon Media. She is a Terra.do climate fellow and was selected as one of eight journalists globally by the Earth Journalism Network to report on UNOC3. She is a public speaker who has appeared at the Onassis Foundation, Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, SNFCC and Athens Music Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
