This opening panel brings together voices from public institutions, European networks and industry to explore how cultural and creative industries, with music at the centre, are emerging as a strategic driver of intellectual property, investment and growth across Europe.

As music increasingly intersects with audiovisual, technology and gaming, it becomes a key engine for value creation and cross-sector innovation. The discussion focuses on how this momentum can evolve from fragmented initiatives into more coordinated, investment-ready frameworks.

With a focus on Greece and Southeast Europe, the panel examines how the region can position itself more strategically within the European landscape, and how stronger collaboration across networks can unlock investment, support IP development and accelerate growth.

Framing the tone of Athens Music Week 2026, the conversation looks at how these dynamics can translate into clearer pathways, stronger partnerships and more sustainable growth across Europe and the region.

Music Tech Europe Association is building a series of closed, expert roundtables across Europe to tackle one of the most pressing questions in the music sector: how do we build shared knowledge around AI, across the music industry, the AI industry, and the artists navigating both?

Athens Forum focuses on a structural gap: music companies and artists often approach AI without the knowledge to use it well, while AI companies often approach music without understanding how the sector actually works. The result is friction, mistrust, and missed opportunity on both sides.

The session explores two sides of the same challenge:

• AI meets music: How are AI companies approaching the music sector? Where does their understanding fall short?
• Music meets AI: How are music companies and artists engaging with AI in practice? What knowledge frameworks are still missing?

The sound of science: Music, mental health and social impact

Music influences how we feel, how we connect, and how we cope. Across disciplines, it is increasingly recognised as a tool for mental health, emotional regulation and social inclusion. But how does this work in practice, and what does science tell us about the impact of sound on the brain?

Bringing together researchers, therapists and practitioners working across neuroscience, music therapy and community settings, we look at how music is used in trauma recovery, youth work and with vulnerable groups, and what makes these approaches effective in real-world contexts. You will hear how music is being translated into accessible applications and how new approaches are helping extend reach and impact, supporting care, resilience, and social change.
