Born in Athens, Greece in 1961, he studied Physics, Meteorology–Oceanology, and Oceanography in Athens and Paris. Since 1985, he has been actively engaged in environmental protection through grassroots activism, as well as national and international NGOs and movements. He joined Greenpeace in 1992 as an oceans campaigner and has played a key role in numerous national environmental initiatives, including the creation of the Marine Park in Zakynthos.
He pioneered the campaign against genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Greece, which led to the adoption of national legislation banning GMOs, protecting both consumers and farmers from genetic pollution. For over two decades, he has been a committed voice in the energy and climate change debate, promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy, and energy storage as essential solutions. More recently, his work has focused on advancing Green Development, emphasizing the need for social justice in the transition to a sustainable future.
He has held various influential roles, including Board Member of the National Center for Environment and Sustainable Development, member of the National Committee for Energy Planning, member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, and Board Member of Climate Action Network – Europe. He is also the author of several books and numerous articles on environmental issues, civil society, climate change, and just transition.
