Matt Cartmell is Chief Executive of Music Technology UK (MTUK), the trade body representing over 250 startups, scaleups, investors, and music industry stakeholders across the UK’s music tech ecosystem.

Founded in 2023, MTUK exists to drive recognition of the UK as a global leader in music tech innovation – connecting founders with capital, opening doors to industry partnerships, and making the case to government for a sector that punches well below its weight in terms of investment and recognition.

Matt has spent 25 years across tech PR, music journalism, news reporting, and trade association leadership. He founded Carta Communications in 2019, working with music tech startups before spotting the same structural problems recurring across the sector and deciding to do something about it.
Matt is based in London and has been going to gigs since 1992, when he saw PJ Harvey in Birmingham.
