From roots to raves: How society shapes electronic sound

This talk explores the roots of electronic music and how different movements were shaped by social and political environments. Stavros will introduce the early waves of electronic music, focusing on how sound emerged from the needs of specific communities, as a tool for identity, expression and, in many cases, resistance.

Joining him Johannes Schmitz will share insights into how the city’s clubbing and festival culture has evolved over time, and how it continues to shape Berlin’s cultural identity today.

The discussion moves beyond a historical overview, opening a broader conversation around the relationship between electronic music, public space, community building and contemporary cultural expression.
