The first day of AMW2022 started promisingly with the welcome of the Mayor of Athens and the opening speech of the Deputy Minister of Culture responsible for contemporary culture, while the baton was passed on to the representatives of the country’s largest cultural institutions (the Onassis Stage Cultural Centre, SNFCC, Technopolis) who for the first time came together in a discussion on the cultural transformation of Athens through music and cultural events in the urban fabric.
What followed was a live listening session with 5 audience favourite radio producers to reveal the background behind the selection of the next hit with the audience actively participating in the listening session and stating their own preferences.
The Greek song (must) take a political nuance as some of its main representatives told us, beyond the unprecedented cancel culture that prevails internationally, while on the other hand Greek rap is making its own language in a revolution with or without a cause that seems to be gaining more and more ground. The day’s workshops with hands on tips on cultural management & the role of artists and independent labels in the digital age were also actively attended.
The day was enriched with music #showcases and concluded with a multigenre lineup and 9 dynamic music ensembles in two Athenian venues (Temple & Bios).
