Showcase: Jimmy Knows (GR)
Jimmy Knows is a 4-member band based in Athens. They were formed in 2018, establishing their indie pop sound with their first lo-fi mixtape titled “Soft Spots“, which was self-released in 2019. Their song writing is a “happy-sad” mixture of soft nostalgic beats and catchy melodies.
In April 2020 the band recorded a 7- inch vinyl single called “Eye of the Storm”, released by Old Bad Habits Record label. In the midst of the pandemic, Jimmy Knows released “I’ve Been Writing Lovesongs”, a 5-track EP that was well received by the Greek and International independent media. Since then, the band has released 2 more singles, “Sweat” and “Flowered” with which they established their sound and flourished in the music scene of Athens
In May 2022, ‘lovesongs’ was re-released by The Hubsters. The single quickly became a hit and its video clip was played daily on Mad TV. Its significant success led to the release of 2 remixes that are now playing on Greek radio stations, such as En Lefko 87,7, Nostos 100,6, Pepper 96,6, and Kosmos 93.6 FM.
After the success of “lovesongs” and after several live performances in 2022, the band began recording new songs. In March 2023, Jimmy Knows released a new single titled “turning into something”, in which they experimented with synth-pop sounds in order to create a more pop aesthetic. This is the first single from their upcoming mixtape, which is expected to be released in the summer of 2023.
