Her journey began with a deep appreciation for music and a desire to share it with others. Carlotta has had the privilege of gracing stages at notable events such as the electronic music festival Kõu, the theatre festival Draama, and the admired LGBTQ+ event series Vikerruum, earning recognition for her spirited performances. While Carlotta values her role as a performer, she finds equal fulfillment in her behind-the-scenes work as an event organizer. Through her event series such as ÖÖ, Motivatsiöön, and Sümbioos, she strives to create inclusive spaces for music lovers to come together and celebrate their shared passion.

]]> Marili Randla is one of the first employees of Music Estonia and has been dedicated for the last 5 years to the development and implementation of music industry programmes and services, e.g. internship programme INTRO, mentoring programmes, funds, etc. Marili has previous experience in the field of music marketing, PR and event management (BDG, Club Hollywood, Hiiu Folk, Iceland Music, TIKS Rekords) and has managed international youth music projects (Noortebänd, Stage Europe Network). From 2023, Marili is a member of the board of the international project HUB for the Exchange of Music Innovation (HEMI) and coordinates the project’s activities on behalf of Estonia. In her spare time, she plays flute in the Tallinn University Symphony Orchestra and in DIY music friendship group Cosmoskva.

]]> Rannar has been at the captain’s wheel of the Estonian startup flagship known as LIFT99 since 2021, helping the Estonian startup ecosystem reach new heights through community building and introducing Estonia to countless foreign governments through outreach projects. He’s also been behind the scenes, organizing the biggest celebration of founders, the Estonian Startup Awards, since 2021.

Besides community-building, Rannar’s background is in education, event organization and heading non-profit cultural organizations, having been the editor-in-chief, program director, and board member for a youth radio initiative that has grown from a 5-person operation to a team of around 40 ambitious young people with a seasonal radio programme. His strengths lie in finding unconventional ways in which people complement each other and in building strong communities, united by strong core values.

First as Head of Mission for cultural and audiovisual cooperation at the French Institute in Estonia, then as the Counsellor for Cultural Programme at the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the EU in Brussels, coordinating the official cultural programme of Estonia’s first Presidency of the Council of the EU, and finally diving into the field of classical and orchestral music and touring as the Production Manager of Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. ]]> Music Estonia’s next Director Ave Tölpt has previously worked as the CEO of the NGO Jazz Estonia, being responsible for the daily management of the organization, team building and both local and international representation. Last workplace featured also working in the cultural sector as the Head of the Exhibition Department in the National Library of Estonia, leading successfully various cooperation projects for many years. Among other things, she contributes to the field of music as an guest author and radio host for Estonian Public Broadcasting, Classical Radio. She is also the first Estonian Ambassador for Keychange, a global network and movement working towards gender equality in the music industry, and the Member of the Council of Advisers at the Georg Ots Tallinn Music College.

]]> Liis has been actively part of the startup world for more than 4 years now. It all started with different ecosystem events and hackathons around the world, pitching competitions and digital initiatives. Since 2020, she’s has managed accelerators programs (Sustainability, SaaS and Cyber) in Startup Wise Guys and has recently become responsible for SWG’s PR activities and events globally.  

Despite the public sector and startup world background (or thanks to that), she has actively participated in the cultural and music scene as an artist liaison in Viljandi Folk Music Festival (since 2007), an intern in Apollo Music Denmark, in Mains Dóeuvres France and also been finishing the first-ever Music Management Mastercours by Estonian Music Development Center. Also, she has been advising the Ministry of Culture in Estonia on European Union topics (would it be Creative Europe or any other relevant projects) and been part of the Estonian Presidency team to the European Council.  

Liis has a background in both the public and private sectors and can therefore recognise (idea/business) potential when she sees one.

]]> A pinch of surrealism, talharpa revival and neozombiepostfolk.
Puuluup was formed in 2014 by two enthusiasts Ramo Teder and Marko Veisson. Ramo Teder is an artist, multi-instrumentalist and a looping pioneer in Estonia. Marko Veisson has a background in anthropology.

They play talharpas – a traditional bowed lyre, popular in Northern Europe since the early middle ages and played on Western Estonian islands until the beginning of 20th century, when it was declared satanistic instrument and destroyed. However – talharpa acts rather strangely in the hands of Puuluup. It is electrified, looped, and often played in experimental techniques. It reminds the old tradition but definitely has another agenda as well.

The lyrics and melodies are a mixture of their musical memories and improvisation. The music may have a dancing beat, or resemble a dark film soundtrack, spy around in the chambers of ancient talharpa players, or travel to far-away lands. 

They play with music as well as they play with words singing in Estonian, adding words from other languages, or their own invented words. Live shows of Puuluup are enriched with elements of absurdly lovely choreography and dry humour.
