The well-established celebration of the music industry in Greece returns renewed with a rich conference program and plenty of concert action.
For one more year, Athens Music Week (AMW) returns from May 22 to 25 to the Technopolis City of Athens and to the city’s central concert venues for a festive four-day event full of discussions, presentations, educational workshops, interactive experiences, parties and of course many showcases concerts from local and international names!
With more than 200 guests from representatives of artistic networks, festivals, conference showcases, concert venues and company executives from the wider music ecosystem, as well as more than 36 artistic groups from Greece and abroad, Athens Music Week is once again the meeting place this year for the people of the music landscape – professionals, artists and music lovers – inviting them to share their passion for music through the numerous activities of the festival.
As is the case every year, this year’s conference program will deal with the latest trends in the music industry, while at the same time it will focus to the promotion, networking, enhancement and support of the domestic scene.
At the heart of Athens Music Week 2024 lies the exploration of the dynamics and connections in the landscape formed between Music Creators and Technology, with special mention of Digital transformation, A.I and new technologies in the service of music creation, as well as the empowerment of emerging artists with an emphasis on highlighting local creators and supporting exportable talent.
Specifically, regarding the second, AMW will invite representatives from the entire spectrum of the live music industry hosting among others for the first time booking agents from some of the biggest festivals in Europe such as Eurosonic, EXIT and Glastonbury, while there will also be songwriting workshops and career guidance seminars to achieve a sustainable career in the international, competitive music market.
At the same time, in the spirit of supporting music creativity and entrepreneurship, AMW in collaboration with Music Tech Europe Association, Orfium, The Orchard, Music Tech Germany, Music Tech France, Media Deals, Music Innovation Hub and Hub for the Exchange of Music Innovation, will host dynamically growing startups from every part of the ecosystem, giving them the opportunity to present the innovative ideas and solutions they offer to it. Among the 40 pioneering companies & innovative startups that will be presented this year are Mood (Music Of Our Desire), an app developed by a Greek team that allows users to listen to music playing in spaces around them in real time, Meloom, an educational application that aims to improve users’ mental health through music, and FEST Technology Inc., A service that provides green, digital solutions to music event organizers to evolve their product experience.
Additionally, AMW will have the pleasure to welcome important, international networks, creating channels of communication and cooperation between the domestic music market and that abroad. In particular, the Music Tech Europe Academy network, the pan-European initiative that supports innovative and start-ups in the field of Music and Technology, as well as the Europe In Sync network, returns to this year’s event to conduct a professional workshop on the topic of music synch in the field of Greek TV productions and, of course, representatives of the Hub for the Exchange of Music Innovation (HEMI), the European platform aimed at supporting artists and music professionals from Central and Southeastern Europe (CSEE).
Also joining these organizations this year will be the Federation of Music Conferences, in which Athens Music Week is a recent member, the Eastern European Music Academy (EEMA), a hybrid capacity-building project aimed at promoting the careers of independent music professionals in the Eastern European region.
Of course, concert action cannot be missing from the menu, which is why this year AMW returns with more than 36 showcase concerts by emerging, domestic and international names of a diverse, sonic fan, who will unfold their talent in front of professionals and music experts of the music market. The line-up of the showcase program was formed by the special, artistic board consisting of key figures of the music industry – inside and abroad – and was created in order to upgrade the quality of showcase concerts by proposing closer ways of cooperation and automation between the domestic and international music market.
AMW’s first five showcase acts have already been announced! International ones include La Chica from France and Venezuela, which unites two musical worlds, presenting a collage of textures and sounds, rooted from its traditional heritage combined with modern influences, and Freedom Candlemaker, i.e. the Cypriot indie pop-rock composer Lefteris Moumtzis who has evolved into one of the most important figures of the music scene of his country, while their Greek counterparts are Aki Rei, the multi-instrumentalist musician/producer with the multifaceted and kaleidoscopic sound style, the hip-hop duo of MC Yinka and DJ Booker that is not limited sonically combining Hip-Hop with Reggae, Funk, Grime and various bass styles, inspired by the culture of Sound System, and Xanthi with her pop, electro and trip hop concerns mixed with experiential ones, Greek lyrics.
